MUSIC REFLECTION JOURNAL - CRITERION D

ARTS PROGRESS JOURNAL

MYP 3 A, Music Class

Alfredo von Reckow

This Reflective Journal is supposed to track and reflect about my journey through the music class, with each entry being for a certain assignment. I will talk about specific things that happen during the class, and my second thoughts on everything that has happened.

ENTRY #1

In this entry, I will talk about the Tah and Conduct and Calpping methods to keep track of beats and how to read certain notes.

We started off with the teacher sending us an ear training book. This book is supposed to help you and teach you to use the tah and conduct and clap and count strategies to keep up with a metronome, and how to read the different types of notes. My progress in this wasn't the best to start off with, as in the beginning I was uninterested. When I started taking interest into the process, I managed to have a somewhat decent conduction ability. The clapping strategy is way more easier, as my brain gets tangled on the conduction and  on the tah's. Whilst practicing with my friends I couldn't find a difference between doing it with the whole class. Actually, doing it alone when it was time for Criterion C was easier. I liked it more that way. Talking about that, I still got a little tangled up with the Tah and Conduct, I believe I could have done better. The clapping thing was perfect for me though.

Taking into consideration, my individual progress as an artist for this assignment was the strongest feature of all in my case. Even though it is contrary to the Concepts, I believe that the only situations that I really needed someone else were just when I had any doubt. Whenever I had a doubt, I could ask the teacher or the person sitting next to me, and the same thing applies for when the teacher explained what we had to do. He explained the strategies and without that I would've not been able to understand as quickly, since he could've just let us read the book alone. The reasons why I didn't like doing the exercises with everyone else are because it was too stressing to go with everyone else.
